Fronberg Castle, a three-winged complex with Renaissance arcades in the inner courtyard, rises in the Fronberg district of the city of Schwandorf in Bavaria.

History+

The first documented mention of the castle dates back to 1305. At that time, the lords of the castle were granted the Mappenberg Vogtland as a fief to finance the reconstruction of a predecessor building destroyed by fire. During the Landshut War of Succession, the complex also suffered significant fire damage. Ownership changed frequently, including the Fronberger, Pollinger, Vestenberger, and Spiering families. A resident was Caroline von Holnstein, who was born here in 1815 and later lived at the castle with her lover and husband Wilhelm Freiherr von Künsberg. Since 1875, Fronberg Castle has been owned by the Barons von Breidbach-Bürresheim.
