Fronsburg Castle

The first documented mention of Fronsburg occurred in 1230 with Hadmar von Freundesperch, a ministerialis of the Counts of Hardegg. Later, in 1281, Winther von Vriuntsperch and the brothers Leutwin and Leo von Vreuntsperch appeared in an endowment book of St. Bernhard Monastery. From 1300 onwards, ownership changed frequently. During the Hussite Wars, Fronsburg was captured and destroyed. In 1448, the brothers Oswald and Stephan von Eyczing received the estate from Michael Graf Hardegg, with the condition that the fief would revert after the extinction of their family. The Khevenhüller family acquired the complex, which had by then been converted into a Renaissance castle, in 1739.
