Fürberg Castle

The earliest mentions of a “Prädium Fürberg” date to 1316, when it was granted to St. Peter's Abbey as an inheritance right. In 1360, this estate passed to the Salzburg citizen Fritz Zchamlin. Fürberg Castle itself was first documented in 1323 and originally served as a residence for a canon. By 1490, it was known as “Neydeck in Pyrglan circa Imberg,” being in the possession of Gregorius Neydeck. In 1624, Wolfgang Feyertag acquired the “Prädium Fürberg,” and a wing of the castle was later named Feyertagsstöckl after his family. Franz Feyertag von Oberhausen united the two properties, the Neydeck estate and Prädium Fürberg, in 1670. He had the current castle built on the foundations of an existing farmhouse. The Feyertag family shaped the property for over 250 years but lost it at the end of the 18th century due to inheritance divisions.
