Fürstenberg Castle (Xanten)

It is reported that the manor house (Fürstenberg Castle), towering on the outermost spur of the hilltop, was built in 1843 by the then owner Gustav von Hochwächter, by the Cologne Cathedral Master Builder Ernst Friedrich Zwirner. At the beginning of the following century, in 1907, it came into the possession of the Liebrecht family.
In the 1930s, the castle was used as a summer studio by the Düsseldorf Art Academy. The Ackermans art collection was later assembled here, which was acquired by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia at the beginning of the new millennium and has since been made accessible to the public in Düsseldorf. The current castle was last extensively renovated in 1985.
