History+
A clearing settlement existed on the site of the present palace as early as the 11th century. This changed hands several times until Elector Maximilian Emanuel acquired the Poschetsried dairy farm in 1715. Between 1715 and 1717, he had the existing manor house transformed into a hunting and pleasure palace by his court architect Joseph Effner. The palace served various purposes, including as a widow's residence, hospital, and barracks. A phase was the accommodation of the ailing Prince Otto of Bavaria from 1881 until his death in 1916. Since 1925, Fürstenried Palace has been used as a retreat house by the Diocese of Munich and Freising.
