In the Würmtal near Munich, Schloss Fußberg presents itself as a country residence. Originally conceived as a fortified manor, it is closely linked to Bavarian history.

The origins of Schloss Fußberg date back to the 12th century when it was administered by the knightly family of Fuß, who were ministeriales of the Wittelsbachs. The fortified manor was first documented in 1342 as a fief of the Bavarian dukes. From 1560, Fußberg became the center of a Hofmark, a status it retained until secularization in 1803. After various noble families from Munich, the castle passed into the possession of Andechs Abbey in 1621. The prelates had the building, damaged during the Thirty Years' War, rebuilt in 1721 into a palace.
