Gabelhofen Castle, a historic moated castle, is located in the Aichfeld region, in the Austrian municipality of Fohnsdorf. Today, it is a four-star castle hotel.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1443, when it was first mentioned as Hof Riegersdorf and belonged to the dominion of Liechtenstein near Judenburg. In 1490, the Pfanngauer family took ownership of the court and began its transformation into a Renaissance moated castle. After the Pfanngauer dynasty died out, the castle passed to the Catzianer and Galler families. In 1494, the Liechtensteins returned as owners and granted it as a fief to the Prankhherren, who completed the renovations around 1536.
