In the Swabian municipality of Gablingen in the district of Augsburg, Gablingen Castle stands as an ensemble of a high castle and a long castle. Together with the adjacent St. Martin's Church, it forms a landmark above the Schmutter Valley on the edge of the Lech Valley.

History+

The history of Gablingen Castle is closely linked to the Fugger family. In 1527, the Fuggers acquired the lordship of Gablingen, which bordered the lordship of Biberbach to the south, from Sebastian von Knöringen. The associated castle, together with St. Martin's Church, became a center. The close architectural connection between the castle and the church emphasizes their role as the ecclesiastical and secular power center of the former Fugger lordship.
