Garvensburg Castle
In Fritzlar-Züschen in the Schwalm-Eder district, Hesse, stands Garvensburg Castle, a historicist structure. It was built in the late 19th century as a hunting lodge, combining the appearance of a castle with the elegance of a villa, set within an extensive English garden.
History+
The construction of Garvensburg took place between 1894 and 1898, commissioned by the industrialist Wilhelm Garvens, who was later ennobled. Parts of an older castle complex, once belonging to the Lords of Meysenbug, were integrated into the building. This family, whose possessions in Züschen extended into the early 19th century, died out in 1810. On the east side of the castle, four 16th-century coats of arms show the Meysenbugs' presence. The castle remained in the Garvens family's possession until the 1970s.
