In Munich's Pasing district is Gatterburg Palace, a late Classicist structure. Its history is closely intertwined with royal endowments and industrial family connections.

History+

The origins of the current palace date back to 1814, when King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria acquired a predecessor building from the Berchem family. This old structure, located on an island in the Würm river, was demolished. In its place, the king had a new country estate built, which he gifted to his son Prince Karl in 1817. Subsequently, the property changed hands several times, including to Knight Felix von Hiltz in 1834 and to Baron Karl von Beck, the founder of the Pasing paper mill, in 1841. His daughter Pauline married Imperial Count Franz von Gatterburg.
