In Bludenz in Vorarlberg, Gayenhofen Castle forms an architectural ensemble with the parish church. Originally a fortress, it was transformed into a neoclassical castle after a fire in the 15th century and now serves as the seat of local authorities.

History+

Between 1222 and 1245, the Counts of Werdenberg built a castle on this site, which served as the center of their dominion over Bludenz. Count Albrecht III. of Werdenberg-Heiligenberg resided in the castle from 1377/78 to 1418. A fire destroyed the complex in 1491.
