A modest 19th-century castle, Gettenbach Castle, is situated in Gettenbach in the Main-Kinzig district of Hesse. Originally developed from an older farmstead, it once served as a hunting and summer residence, as well as a dower house for a noble lineage.

History+

The first mention of Gettenbach dates back to 1252 in the context of an exchange transaction. Since the Middle Ages, the location was a base for the mounted foresters of the Büdinger Forest. In the late 17th century, glassworks and an iron smelter were established here. The current castle complex evolved from an older farmstead, which was expanded into a small castle in the 1840s and 1850s. It served the Isenburg-Meerholz line as a hunting, summer, and dower residence.
