Gieboldehausen Castle

The manor house of the former burgmann seat of the Lords of Minnigerode in Gieboldehausen is located south of the town center in a green area and is often referred to as a "castle". The representative building is the remainder of a larger estate. It is a three-story building with two projecting half-timbered floors above a rubble stone base story, with a steep, slate-covered roof with a central roof turret. The house was built at the beginning of the 16th century, but the solid ground floor and the vaulted cellar date from a predecessor building, which as a fortified stone house was also surrounded by moats and in turn could have been built on the site of an older motte. An earlier owner of the house was Hans von Brudenhusen, from whom Hans von Minnigerode the Younger bought house, courtyard, fields, and meadows in Gieboldehausen in 1502. Probably this also included the "House on the Wall". Hans von Minnigerode himself was named as a burgmann in Gieboldehausen from 1502 and served as Amtmann from 1521 to 1532. After 1520, he had the house built in its present form, with dendrochronological investigations of the half-timbering dating to the year 1528.
