Gleina Castle, an estate that was once the ancestral seat of a knightly family, stands in the Unstrut valley in Saxony-Anhalt.

History+

The first documented mention of the village Gleina dates back to 1144. In 1245, the Knights of Gleina, also known as Glyna or Glina, appeared as the resident family. Construction of the current castle began in 1689. In 1830, Bernhard von Helldorff, a Prussian chamberlain, acquired the castle and estate. After World War II, in 1945, his descendants were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.
