On the eastern edge of the village of Gleusdorf in Lower Franconia stands Gleusdorf Castle, a former noble residence, today an early Classicist building. Its history is closely linked to Banz Abbey.

History+

The first documented mention of Gleusdorf dates to 1151. The estate was a fief of Banz Abbey, which granted it to its ministeriales. From the 14th to the 16th century, the Lords of Fulbach inhabited the castle, which suffered damage during the Peasants' War in 1525. After the extinction of this line in the late 16th century, the fief reverted to the abbey and was converted into a vogtei office. The current castle building was completed around 1770.
