Glött Castle, once a moated castle, is situated on the southern edge of the Danube valley in the municipality of Glött, approximately 15 kilometers south of Dillingen an der Donau. It gave its name to the Fugger-Glött line.

History+

The history of Glött Castle began in 1537 when Anton Fugger von der Lilie acquired the estate and the town of Glött, then located in the Margraviate of Burgau. Between 1550 and 1560, he had a two-story, three-wing complex built next to the existing structure. This was surrounded by a moat and featured two round corner towers on the north wing. In 1869, Regent Johann Evangelist Wagner purchased the area from Count Fidel Ferdinand von Fugger-Glött for 25,000 Gulden. He opened the St. Joseph’s Institution for Cretins there, with the Dillingen Franciscan Sisters taking over the care.
