Gloggnitz Castle

The origins of Gloggnitz Castle date back to 1094, when the Benedictine monastery of Vornbach was elevated to an abbey. Donations of land in the area of Neunkirchen, Pitten, and Gloggnitz facilitated the establishment of a filial monastery of the Vornbach Benedictines in Gloggnitz. After its secularization in 1803, the former monastery became known as a castle. From 1977 onwards, a revitalization of the complex began, supported by various ministries, the state of Lower Austria, and private donors. The Michael's Chapel was reconsecrated in 1988, and a new café-restaurant opened its doors in 1991. In 1992, the castle hosted the Lower Austrian State Exhibition and subsequently established itself as a venue for weddings and celebrations.
