Elector August commissioned the construction of Glücksburg Hunting Lodge between 1576 and 1580. Its original function as a stately hunting residence came to an end when the building was completely destroyed during the Seven Years' War. At the beginning of the 19th century, reconstruction took place, utilizing the remaining ruins to establish the Glücksburg Chief Forestry Office.
