Gochsheim Castle, once a medieval fortress, stands in Kraichtal-Gochsheim in the district of Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg. It was once a main residence of the Counts of Eberstein and now houses a museum.

History+

The origins of Gochsheim Castle date back to a medieval castle that stood on a hill west of the Kraichbach stream. As early as 1278, the settlement of Gochsheim, which developed around the castle, was mentioned as a town. The castle was owned by the Counts of Eberstein, who initiated a redesign into a Renaissance castle from 1520. By 1580, a complex consisting of a smaller Front Castle and a larger Rear Castle was built. After the death of Casimir von Eberstein in 1660, who left no male heirs, the property passed to Württemberg. The castle suffered damage during the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689 by French troops and during a town fire in 1739. In 1828/29, the larger Rear Castle was demolished.
