Gösting Castle, a Baroque castle in Styria, is located at the foot of the castle hill in the 13th district of Graz, Gösting. Its architecture is linked to the destruction of the nearby Gösting Fortress.

History+

The castle's history begins after a lightning strike in 1723, which hit the powder magazine of Gösting Fortress and caused a fire that completely destroyed the fortress. Count Ignaz Maria von Attems, the then owner, decided against rebuilding the fortress. Instead, he commissioned the architect Johann Georg Stengg to build a summer castle. This new structure, built between 1724 and 1728, possibly incorporated remnants of an older 17th-century administrative building, as indicated by some lunette vaults on the ground floor. The interior decoration of the castle was completed only in 1735.
