Goldegg Castle

The first documented mention of a Wézil von Goldegg dates back to 1293. In 1326, the sovereign's property was granted as a fief to the Goldegg family, who gave the place and the castle their name. Subsequently, fiefs and owners changed hands multiple times. A chapel on the grounds was mentioned in 1495 under Stephan Urtendorfer. Between 1589 and 1639, under the Enenkel family, the original castle with its keep, palas, and chapel underwent remodelling into an irregular three-winged late Renaissance palace. In 1641, Johann Mathias Prücklmayer, Baron of and to Goldegg, acquired the estate and bequeathed it to his daughter. She sold the castle in 1669 to the Trautson family, who undertook further expansions. Since 1782, Goldegg Castle has been owned by the Auersperg family. After war damage in 1945, the complex was restored.

Goldegg Castle is situated at approximately 379 m above sea level in the village of Goldegg, part of the municipality of Neidling in the St. Pölten Land district of Lower Austria, Austria.
