Golßen Castle

The origins of the estate in Golßen date back to 1276, when a knight's estate existed there, owned by the burgraves from the House of Wettin. Ownership changed frequently: Heinrich de Damis in 1346, followed by the pledging to the Lords of Querfurt by Emperor Charles IV in 1372. Later owners included Margrave Wilhelm "the One-Eyed" of Meissen (1395), Wichard von Rochan (1402), and the von Knobelsdorff family (from 1418). In the 15th century, the von Polentz and von Stutterheim families followed. A portion of the estate came into the possession of the von Bredow family in 1647, who held it until 1718.
