In Gondelsheim, within the Karlsruhe district, stands Gondelsheim Castle. Its architecture combines Scottish Neo-Gothic elements with Art Nouveau additions.

History+

On the site of the current castle once stood a fortress that suffered severe destruction during the Peasants' War and later in the Thirty Years' War. In 1790, the Baden Margraves Friedrich and Ludwig Wilhelm August, later Grand Duke Ludwig I, acquired the property. Grand Duke Ludwig bequeathed the castle to his son Ludwig Wilhelm August, Count of Langenstein and Gondelsheim. After his death, it passed to his sister Luise, who was married to Carl Israel, Count Douglas.
