In Grabenstätt, the castle, whose origins date back to the 10th century, now serves as the town hall and houses the Tourist Information Center. The area around Grabenstätt was already known as the County of Reginbert.

History+

The first documented mention of Grabenstätt dates back to June 8, 959, in a document by King Otto the Great. Originally under Salzburg administration, the area reverted to Bavaria around 1275, but retained its status as a Salzburg demesne, while judicial and sovereign jurisdiction lay with Bavaria. Grabenstätt Castle later became the center of a Hofmark, which in the 18th century belonged to the Counts of Rheinstein and Tattenbach. With the dissolution of the Hofmark in 1803, a history began. A major fire in 1834 largely destroyed the castle.
