Gradisch Castle

The origins of Gradisch Castle possibly trace back to a medieval noble seat, whose name “Gradisch” suggests a former castle site. This earlier structure might have been named after the noble family Paradeiser, who are documented from 1192 as ministerials of the Carinthian dukes. A first documentary mention of a family seat occurred in 1250, though it remains unclear whether this referred to the current location or Prägrad Castle. In the 14th century, the trail of the Paradeiser family disappears. In 1550, Ferdinand I granted Georg von Neuhaus-Paradeiser the castle immunity for his newly built residence Gradisch. Eva Regina Paradeiser sold the castle in 1652 to Johann Freiherr von Platz.
