Greifenberg Castle

The castle was built in the 13th century by Griffo von Andechs. Ownership then passed to the Lords of Greifenberg, in 1420 to the Lords of Wittelsbach, and in 1478 to the Barons of Perfall. In 1760, the castle burned down and was subsequently rebuilt by Leonhard Matthäus Giessl from 1760-1790.

The current building is a four-winged complex with three full stories and a mezzanine. The main facade faces east and features a central projection with a triangular pediment. The castle chapel, dedicated to St. Michael, is located in the north wing and contains valuable frescoes from the 18th century.

The Castle Garden

The castle garden was laid out in the 18th century as a baroque garden. It features geometrically arranged paths, hedges, and flowerbeds. In the 19th century, parts of the garden were transformed into an English landscape garden, with winding paths and picturesque views. Today, the garden is open to the public and offers a peaceful retreat.

Today, the castle houses a museum that showcases the history of the building and its former inhabitants. Various rooms are furnished with period furniture and art, giving visitors an insight into aristocratic life. The castle also hosts cultural events, concerts, and exhibitions. Parts of the castle can be rented for private events.
