Greifenburg Castle

The castle is first mentioned in a document in 1166. The Greifenbergers, who resided here, were ministeriales of the Carinthian dukes.

Around 1230, Duke Bernhard of Spanheim of Carinthia acquired the lordship. In 1252, Albert III of Tyrol and his son-in-law Meinhard II of Gorizia besieged the castle.
