The origins of Grönsö Castle date back to the early 17th century. It was constructed between 1607 and 1611 by Johan Skytte. Over the course of the 18th century, the estate changed hands multiple times, initially to the Falkenberg family. A comprehensive renovation in 1738 led to the removal of its four characteristic towers. Later in that century, the castle passed into the possession of the Stockholm physician David von Schultzheim. Since 1820, it has been owned by the von Ehrenheim family, who still reside there today.
