Frühe Geschichte und Entwicklung
A predecessor building was first mentioned in a document in 937, when Emperor Otto I gifted the property to the monastery in Magdeburg. In 1489, the castle was owned by Hofmarschall Hans von Kotze. From 1536-98, the castle was rebuilt. The castle survived the Thirty Years' War and World War II almost undamaged. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. In November 1999, the castle was almost completely destroyed by arson.
