Groß Schönebeck Castle, a historic hunting lodge, is in the Brandenburg landscape. Originally built to replace a destroyed castle, it now stands as a cultural monument in the municipality of Schorfheide.

History+

The origins of Groß Schönebeck Castle date back to 1660, when the Great Elector initiated the construction of an early Baroque hunting lodge. It was built on the foundations of a previously destroyed castle and was once surrounded by a moat. However, the completion of the building only occurred under King Frederick William I. The castle served as a residence for royal majesties and their guests during hunts in the Schorfheide. A stucco ceiling on the upper floor dates from this era.
