In the southern part of the Lower Austrian market town of Groß-Schweinbarth stands the castle of the same name, whose origins date back to the 12th century. This building is now owned by the Abensperg-Traun family.

History+

The history of Groß-Schweinbarth Castle begins in the 12th century, when the place was known by names such as Suinwart or Swinwart, indicating a high stand for wild boar hunting. Before 1280, a moated castle was built on this site, which remained in the possession of the local population until the early 14th century. Later, the dominion fell under the feudal lordship of the Burggrave of Nuremberg, but was returned to the citizens as a princely fief.
