Grossheide Castle, located in the municipality of the same name in the Aurich district, is a former estate in East Frisia that now serves as a children's and youth residential group.

History+

Around 1900, the Ten Doornkaat family, specifically Commercial Councillor Jan (III.) ten Doornkaat Koolmann, acquired extensive lands in Grossheide, consisting mainly of heathland and wasteland. The goal was to establish a fattening farm that would use the spent grain from the Norden distillery for livestock feeding. On this site, the Friederikenfeld estate was created, named after the owner's mother. The so-called castle was built in 1901 as the administrator's residence for the estate. Before World War I, parts of the agricultural land were sold.
