Großropperhausen Castle is a residence on the southeastern edge of Frielendorf's district Großropperhausen. It is an example of a castle-like manor house that integrates into an estate complex.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1698, when the von Baumbach family acquired three-quarters of the Ropperhausen Castle and court from the heirs of the von Gilsa family. The remaining quarter also came into their possession in 1719. Between 1711 and 1724, the farmstead facilities underwent renovation and fortification. The current castle was built in 1832 by the Lords of Baumbach. The older Ropperhausen Castle was no longer used after its sale, partially dismantled, and fell into disrepair.
