Großsedlitz Castle

The origins of the estate date back to 1715, when Imperial Count Christoph August von Wackerbarth acquired the land. Between 1719 and 1723, he had a country residence with an orangery built there. As early as 1723, the estate came into the possession of Elector Augustus the Strong, who had it expanded and redesigned by 1727. Grosssedlitz was intended as an order palace for the feasts of the Polish Order of the White Eagle, whose first and only feast under Augustus the Strong took place here in 1727. His son, Elector Frederick Augustus II, continued this tradition, and by 1756, twelve more festivities were held here. After 1750, the complex fell into disrepair, and the Seven Years' War and the Napoleonic Wars caused damage. Initial preservation work took place between 1846 and 1878.
