Grünau Castle

Grünau was first documented around 1212, with Ortolph von Volkensdorf named as its owner. He exercised jurisdiction between Enns and Traun and was the feudal lord of the castle, which, however, was not inhabited by the Volkensdorfers themselves but granted as a fief. In 1437, Hans Laun von Hanstein appeared as the owner, selling it to Hans Paltram. After Paltram's death, his widow sold the property in 1468 to Ulrich von Paumgartner. Magdalena Paternusterer followed in 1483, and through inheritance, Grünau came into the possession of Wolfgang Tollinger. Around 1596, the dominion comprised only ten subjects. Another inheritance led to Erasmus Hack von Bornimb becoming the new owner in 1650. Around 1700, Johann Baptist von Riesenfels acquired the castle, and by 1774, Ernst von Hackelsberg was the owner.
