North of Rottenmann in Styria, on an elevated position in the district of Villmannsdorf, stands Schloss Grünbühel. This elongated building with its eventful history is a testament to past eras and impresses with its simple yet striking appearance.

History+

The estate was first mentioned in a document around 1419 as “Hof am Püchl,” owned by the Pichler family. Through marriage, it passed to the Hofmann family, who subsequently called themselves “von Grünbühel.” After the Hofmanns acquired Burg Strechau and made it their main residence, Grünbühel lost importance. When the last heiress, Anna Potentiana Jörger, had to leave the country due to her Protestant faith, the castle was sold. Numerous changes of ownership followed, including the Counts of Stainach, the Barons of Putterer, and the Counts Welsersheimb.
