In Grüningen, a district of Greußen in the Kyffhäuser district, stands Grüningen Castle. It is known for its connection to the poet Novalis and now houses a nursing home and hosts cultural events.

History+

The origins of Grüningen Castle date back to 1198, when a castle at this site was first mentioned in documents. This predecessor, of which traces such as ramparts, moats, and wall remnants still exist today, was presumably built by the Lords of Grüningen. In the early 16th century, the building underwent an expansion. The castle largely acquired its current appearance in 1772, when it was rebuilt as a two-story plastered building with a mansard roof.
