Guggenthal Castle

The first documented mention of the hamlet of Guggenthal dates back to 1272. In 1588, the estate was owned by Andre and Maximilian Stainhauser. After the bankruptcy of their trading house, the Salzburg merchant Sebastian Stainperger acquired the property in 1627. His widow Magdalena Taxin sold it in 1633 to Catharina Countess Lodron. Archbishop Paris Lodron acquired the estate in 1642 for the Lodron primogeniture and gifted the newly built manor house to Bishop Johann Christoph von Chiemsee. His successor Johann Graf Preysing sold the estate in 1670 to Franz Carl Polito. After his death in 1683, a jurisdictional dispute arose, confirming Guggenthal's affiliation with the Neuhaus court. The estate was subsequently leased to farmers until it passed into the possession of the Hatschek family in 1875, who still own it today.
