Gundorf Castle

In the course of secularization, the abbey and monastery estate of Gundorf came into the possession of the sovereign, who sold it to the farmer Valentin Kietz. As early as 1613, the settlement of Barneck, located southeast of Gundorf, was incorporated. In 1661, the village came into the possession of J. Fritzsche, a senior judge in Leipzig, who already owned the Scherbitz estate (Altscherbitz, abbey estate). The Gundorf monastery estate was thereafter called Neuscherbitz.

The manor house of the knight's estate was built in 1720 by Johann Ernst Kregel von Sternbach. The adjoining park was designed by Peter Joseph Lenné.

In 1881, the Leipzig entrepreneur and city councilor Albin Ackermann-Teubner acquired Gundorf Castle and Estate. His monogram "AA", which was originally on Villa Ackermann in Leipzig, still adorns the large double doors at the main entrance of the castle today.

In 1902, the official designation "Rittergut Gundorf" (Gundorf Knight's Estate) was introduced.

Erich Ackermann, who took over the knight's estate in 1922, had the small tower added at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1938, he sold the knight's estate to the city of Leipzig for 2.6 million Reichsmark.

Today, an equestrian center is located on the premises, and the building itself has been renovated.
