In the Gundorf district of Leipzig stands the eponymous castle, a historic building that once served as the manor house of a knight's estate.

History+

The origins of Gundorf Castle date back to the time of secularization, when the former abbey and monastery estate passed into the possession of the sovereign and was sold to the farmer Valentin Kietz. In 1613, the settlement of Barneck, located southeast of Gundorf, was incorporated. In 1661, the village was acquired by Leipzig's Chief Justice J. Fritzsche, who already owned the Scherbitz estate. The Gundorf monastery estate was thereafter referred to as Neuscherbitz.
