Guttenburg Castle, a complex, is near Kraiburg am Inn in Bavaria. Originally built as a fortress, it transformed into a castle that still shapes the landscape today.

History+

The origins of Guttenburg Castle date back to around 1285. Duke Heinrich XIII of Bavaria commissioned his ministerialis Heinrich von Taufkirchen to build a castle. This was erected on a mountain spur above the right bank of the Inn, leading to complaints from Archbishop Rudolf, which, however, remained unsuccessful. In the Bavarian War of 1422, the castle fell victim to a fire. Between 1660 and 1670, and again in the 18th century, the complex underwent redesign into a baroque castle, complemented by a garden.
