Häringe was first mentioned in 1278 in a letter from the king Magnus III. 1495 gave the Bishop Conrad Rogge ownership of Sten Sture the Elder (Sten Sture the äldre). After his death in 1503 the property transferred to Sten Sture the Younger (Sten Sture the Yngre). Thereafter inherited his wife's nephew Åke Jöransson (Tott) possession. He was succeeded by his daughter Christian Åkesdotter and 1534 whose husband Peder Larsson (Hård av herrings) and then her second husband Johan Pedersson (Bååt). 1625 the property transferred to the General Gustav Horn. He built from 1651-1657 the present castle. Gustav died in 1657 and the castle was inherited by his daughter Agneta. 1696 came into the possession of her granddaughter Wrede.
