Hagenwil Castle, a moated castle, is situated in Switzerland and its history dates back to the early 13th century. It is an example of a well-preserved medieval complex.

History+

The origins of Hagenwil Castle date back to the beginning of the 13th century, when the Lords of Hagenwil were also first mentioned in documents. Rudolf von Hagenwil, an early representative of this lineage, is said to have participated in Frederick II's crusade and later bequeathed a significant part of his property to St. Gallen Abbey. Over the following centuries, the abbey granted the castle to various feudal lords, including the families von Breitenlandenberg and von Paygrer. In 1504, ownership passed to the Lords of Bernhausen.
