Haidenhof Castle is located in the independent city of Passau. Once a simple farm, it evolved into a hunting lodge that today, as private property, retains its original elegance.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1614, when a Wolf Hayll was recorded as the owner of the then Hayllhof. This farm later gave its name to the former municipality of Haidenhof and the current Passau districts of Haidenhof Nord and Haidenhof Süd. In 1685, the Passau canon Vigil Graf von Thun erected a small castle on this site. The building acquired its current appearance around 1790, when it was redesigned into a hunting lodge for Canon Leopold Freiherr von Hanxleden under the direction of court architect Johann Georg Hagenauer.
