In the municipality of Haldenwang in the district of Günzburg stands Haldenwang Castle, a structure whose origins date back to the 15th century. It combines elements from various epochs.

History+

The construction of Haldenwang Castle took place around the year 1480. In 1502, ownership transferred to the Lords of Knörringen, before it passed into the possession of the noble family von Freyberg in 1515. Rudolph von Freyberg-Eisenberg initiated a renovation in 1860, which gave the castle its Neo-Gothic character. Until the end of World War II, it served as the residence for the von Freyberg family. After its occupation by the US Army in 1945, it was converted into a home for war-disabled displaced persons. Another renovation and redesign took place in 1984.
