Hall Castle

Schloss Hall likely began in the 13th century under the rule of the Wittelsbachs, when a small castle with underground escape tunnels is presumed to have stood here. The current castle emerged in 1644 from a bourgeois house and was recognized as a noble seat. Ten years later, in 1654, Emperor Ferdinand III transferred the town and the castle as a pledge to Count Maximilian von Trautmannsdorf. The Trautmannsdorf family retained the property until 1848, after which it passed into bourgeois ownership. In 1941, the Diocesan Caritas Association acquired the building and converted it into a nursing home. During World War II, it served as accommodation for South Tyrolean resettlers and, from 1944, housed the Linz Children's Hospital. Since its return to Caritas in 1948, it has been used as a nursing home again since 1949.
