Hamm Castle, a castle-like complex in the Eifel region, is located in the municipality of Hamm in the Bitburg-Prüm district of Rhineland-Palatinate. It emerged from one of the largest medieval fortifications in the region.

History+

The origins of Hamm Castle date back to the 11th century, with a documented mention of a Becelinus von Hamm in 1026 suggesting an earlier complex. It served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Hamm, who acted as vassals of the Counts of Vianden and administered the Bidgau. In the late 16th century, the property passed by marriage to Gerhard von der Horst, who had a new building in the Renaissance style erected on the medieval foundations.
