Handschuhsheim Castle

The castle's origins date back to the 15th century, when it was first mentioned as Knebelhof. The Knebel family owned the estate for several generations. In 1609, Dam Philipp Knebel undertook a renovation of the manor house, with the stair tower from that period still preserved today. Through inheritance, ownership later passed to the Landschad von Steinach family and then to the Lords of Venningen. After a sale in 1659, the estate was destroyed in 1674 but restored in 1677. During the Palatinate War of Succession, it suffered further destruction, with the stair tower once again withstanding the damage. Around 1700, the building acquired its present appearance and was expanded with an orangery in 1701.
