Harbach Castle

The first documented mention of the property as a noble seat dates back to 1213, when the brothers Reimbotus and Hermannus de Horbach were named. In 1303, a Heinrich von Harbach appeared in the records. Exactly when the transition from noble seat to castle occurred is not recorded. It was not until 1752, during its sale to Dr. Franz Rainer, who later adopted a noble title and named himself after the castle, that Harbach reappeared in documents. A phase began in 1890 with the settlement of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, who established a home for girls in need here. Due to demand, extensions were carried out from 1893, including a new wing, further additions in the early 20th century, and a church wing between 1914 and 1918. After the First World War, further additions followed, such as a kindergarten and an after-school care center, as well as a new school building in 1936.
