Hardisleben Castle

The origins of settlement in Hardisleben date back to the 3rd century, when West Germanic Warnen tribes settled in the area and built initial fortifications in the form of ramparts and moats. Around 300 AD, a second settlement emerged, and by 500 AD, the moated castle developed into an Old Thuringian noble seat. After the defeat of the Thuringians in 531, the area came under Frankish influence, and the castle complex was converted into a Frankish manor. Hardisleben was first documented in 1230, and in 1239, there were initial indications of a fortification. Ownership changed hands several times until it passed to the Lords of Mühlich in 1508.
