In the Lower Austrian village of Harmannsdorf stands Harmannsdorf Castle. It is a two-story, square-shaped building enclosing a square courtyard and surrounded by a deep, former moat.

History+

The origins of the complex date back to around 1280, when a small defensive structure was documented in connection with a knight from Hadmarstorff. In 1499, the manor was known as the “Höllturm” (Hell Tower) and marked an important border point of three regional courts. In 1612, it was transformed into a moated castle, incorporating older elements and the medieval keep. Extensive Baroque renovations around 1760 led to the creation of a French garden with a grand staircase.
